Zimbabwean man caught with male genitalia in bag after entering Botswana illegally

A Zimbabwean national has been remanded in custody in Botswana pending a ruling on his bail application after he was arrested for allegedly having suspected human body parts.

Nyasha Mugodzeri, 28, of Phirinyane Ward in Shashe Mooke, appeared before Principal Magistrate Ditebogo Ntuli at the Francistown Magistrates’ Court on 15 September, the Daily News reported.

He faces two counts: entering Botswana through an ungazetted point of entry and possession of suspected human body parts, described as male genitalia.

The court heard from Detective Constable Gomolemo Dickson of the Criminal Investigation Department that Mugodzeri was arrested following a tip-off.

Detective Constable Dickson asked the court to remand the accused, arguing that investigations into the second count were still at an early stage. The police are yet to establish the origin of the suspected body parts, and he said releasing Mugodzeri on bail could interfere with the inquiry.

The application was opposed by the prosecution. Dithong Mpale, of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions, told the court that possession of human body parts was a serious offence and that the accused might evade justice if granted bail, particularly as he was already facing a charge of illegal entry. He added that the exhibit had been sent for forensic examination.

In his application for bail, Mugodzeri said he would not abscond as he intended to clear his name, and that there would be no one to look after his property if he were kept in custody.
