A dormitory that housed 340 Form 3 and 4 students was destroyed this morning after a fire broke out at Hill School, Eldoret.

The fire reportedly broke out at 5am; however, no injuries were reported, as all students were in morning preps at the time.

The fire was contained by Kenya Red Cross Society (KRCS), who were working alongside the Uasin Gishu County Coordinator, police, fire brigade and community members.

This comes amid the rising cases of fire outbreaks in Kenyan high schools.

At least 37 distinct school fires have been officially logged and responded to by emergency agencies like the Kenya Red Cross Society, and a wider range of unrest in over 100 institutions since January.

Kenya Red Cross Society has now reported that psychological support is being provided to the affected students while a rapid needs assessment is being conducted to determine the extent of damage and inform the appropriate course of action.
