No Government Can Solve All National Challenges In Six Years

Says Minister Piah

Information Minister Jerolinmek M. Piah has acknowledged that no single government or administration can resolve all of a nation’s challenges within a six-year presidential term, emphasizing the critical need for continuity in governance and sustained efforts toward long-term national development.

Minister Piah made these remarks during the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism’s (MICAT) regular press briefing in Monrovia, where he addressed the complexities of governance and the importance of consolidating achievements made by successive administrations.

According to Minister Piah, national development demands strategic, multi-year planning and steady policy execution, rather than unrealistic expectations for a single administration to solve every historical issue facing the country. He stressed that incoming governments should safeguard meaningful progress achieved by their predecessors and focus on advancing ongoing national projects rather than discarding or reversing established programs.

However, the minister’s statement comes amid persistent public concern over poverty, high unemployment, inadequate basic services, substandard road infrastructure, and limited economic opportunities for everyday Liberians. While government officials frequently highlight the systemic nature of national development, citizens continue to press for immediate, tangible improvements in their daily living conditions.

The remarks have also drawn public interest regarding how the administration of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai measures its progress and what specific milestones citizens can expect from its national agenda. While complete transformation within a single six-year period remains improbable, observers emphasize that the public retains a legitimate interest in knowing which commitments have been fulfilled, which remain works in progress, and what concrete steps are being taken to mitigate pressing economic hardships.

In a related development aimed at enhancing public information dissemination, MICAT officially handed over 15 TVS motorbikes to field correspondents of the Liberia News Agency (LINA). The logistical support forms part of ongoing efforts to expand news-gathering operations and improve coverage across rural and hard-to-reach communities throughout Liberia.

The initiative directly targets severe transportation constraints faced by LINA journalists outside Monrovia, where deteriorated road infrastructure and limited transit options frequently hinder reporters from reaching remote areas to cover government developments, local community issues, and public affairs.

The motorbikes are expected to enhance field mobility and ensure the timely delivery of news from underserved regions. Analysts note, however, that the long-term effectiveness of the fleet will depend heavily on sustained fuel allocations, routine maintenance arrangements, spare part availability, and operational accountability.

While the provision of mobility tools to state media represents a practical operational upgrade, public focus remains centered on broader governance outcomes. Ultimately, while continuity in public administration offers a baseline for sustainable progress, citizens maintain that it should serve to accelerate developmental outcomes rather than explain away delays in delivering core government promises.
