Ivan Mayanja scored a spectacular goal to help Police overcome Mbarara City as the two teams faced off on Saturday at the Kira Road Police Arena.
In what was his first League game for the Cops since joining from Maroons, Mayanja scored the lone goal of the game to guide Police to a 1-0 win.
The diminutive forward scored a beauty from distance in the 73rd minute and this eventually turned out to be the decisive moment of the closely contested game.
Mayanja won possession about 40 yards from goal and he fired a ferocious strike that went past goalkeeper Stuart Kafuluma.
The Cops eventually held on for the remaining minutes to fetch all three points and start the new season on a perfect note.
Police will return to action on Matchday two with an away game against Blacks Power in Hoima while Mbarara City will not be in action because Kitara who they were supposed to face will br preparing for their CAF Confederation Cup game against Mogadishu FC.
