Jackson’s Health Declines Amid Calls For Release Of Wife’s Autopsy Report….Jackson’s Health Worsens

Liberian economist and political analyst Samuel Jackson is reportedly experiencing a significant decline in his health, raising concerns about his ability to continue meeting court-imposed bail conditions as he battles criminal charges linked to the controversial death of his South African-born wife, Attorney Ntombikayise Innocentia “Toni” Khumalo Jackson.

On Thursday, October 22, 2026, Jackson reportedly required physical assistance to enter the Supreme Court of Liberia in Monrovia to comply with a daily signing requirement imposed as part of his bail conditions. His apparent difficulty walking has renewed concerns about his medical condition and his request to travel abroad for specialized treatment.

Jackson has reportedly expressed an urgent need to leave Liberia to obtain medical care that he believes is unavailable locally. However, his request remains complicated by the travel restrictions imposed following his release on bail. The situation has intensified debate over the balance between enforcing court orders and addressing the medical needs of an accused person awaiting trial.

The development has also revived public scrutiny of the Liberia National Police (LNP) and the Ministry of Justice over their handling of the investigation into the death of Jackson’s wife, who died on March 13, 2026, after sustaining severe head injuries. Mr. Jackson has maintained that her injuries resulted from an accidental nighttime fall at their residence in Monrovia.

According to Jackson’s account, efforts to obtain emergency medical assistance were hampered by delays in securing an ambulance and the services of a brain surgeon. His wife was subsequently taken to the John F. Kennedy Memorial Medical Center, where she later died. However, investigators treated the circumstances surrounding her death as suspicious after reports of bruises, lacerations, and other injuries on her body.

The Liberia National Police initially identified Jackson as a person of interest before he was arrested on April 2, 2026. He was subsequently detained at Monrovia Central Prison as the investigation proceeded. Prosecutors initially pursued multiple allegations, including manslaughter, negligent homicide, aggravated assault, and reckless endangerment. A Special Grand Jury of Montserrado County later reduced the charges to manslaughter and negligent homicide, according to the case account provided.

Jackson was released in April on a US$20,000 criminal appearance bond, subject to restrictions that include a travel ban and mandatory court check-ins. He has consistently denied responsibility for his wife’s death, describing the prosecution as a politically motivated campaign intended to silence his criticism of President Joseph Boakai’s administration. Those allegations remain Jackson’s claims and have not been established as fact.

A major point of contention in the case is the reported failure of authorities to release the official autopsy and toxicology findings. Jackson and his legal representatives have questioned the delay, arguing that access to the medical evidence is necessary to clarify the cause and circumstances of his wife’s death. His defense has also disputed the interpretation of the injuries cited by prosecutors, arguing that some marks could have resulted from emergency resuscitation efforts and medical procedures.

The dispute over an independent postmortem examination has further complicated the case. Jackson’s legal representatives reportedly sought permission for an independent pathologist to examine the body, but the Office of the Solicitor General initially declined to authorize the examination before the official investigation was completed. Jackson later accused authorities of deliberately withholding the autopsy and toxicology reports, allegations that require an official response from the relevant institutions.

The prolonged uncertainty has also raised concerns about the handling of the deceased woman’s remains. Jackson previously alleged that his wife’s body had remained in a morgue for more than 100 days, delaying burial arrangements and extending the family’s grief. The status of the remains, the availability of the autopsy report, and the possibility of an independent examination remain central issues requiring clarification from the authorities.

As Jackson’s health reportedly deteriorates, pressure is mounting for the police and the Ministry of Justice to provide clear information about the status of the forensic findings and explain any continuing restrictions on their release. Authorities have a responsibility to preserve the integrity of the investigation, while the defense is entitled to pursue appropriate legal channels to access evidence relevant to the charges.

The case now presents two pressing concerns: ensuring that Jackson’s medical condition receives appropriate attention while he remains subject to court orders, and establishing the facts surrounding his wife’s death through transparent, credible forensic evidence. Until the autopsy findings are made public or properly presented through the judicial process, questions surrounding the death and the prosecution are likely to remain unresolved.

The Liberia National Police and the Ministry of Justice should be given an opportunity to respond to the allegations concerning the autopsy report and explain the legal basis for any continuing restrictions. Jackson remains presumed innocent unless proven guilty by a competent court.
