Troops of the Nigerian Army have rescued 10 prospective National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members who were abducted by suspected kidnappers in Imo State.
According to an operational report made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), troops of the 34 Artillery Brigade under Operation UDO KA responded to the kidnap incident at about 6:30 a.m. on Thursday at Umonuwa village along the Onitsha-Owerri Road in Mbaise Local Government Area.
The victims were abducted from two commercial buses by the suspected kidnappers.
Troops, working in conjunction with personnel of the Nigerian Navy, Nigerian Air Force, Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services (DSS), are trailing the criminals in a coordinated effort to rescue the remaining victims.
The rescued prospective corps members were handed over to the DSS for debriefing and further assistance.
Security agencies continue operations in the area to track the perpetrators and free those still in captivity.
