Nottingham Forest have finalized the £22 million transfer of right-back Daniel Munoz from Premier League rivals Crystal Palace, with the Colombia international signing a three-year contract at the City Ground.
The 29-year-old defender reunites with manager Oliver Glasner, under whom he won the FA Cup, the Conference League, and the Community Shield during his two-and-a-half-year stint at Selhurst Park. Munoz recorded 11 goals in 109 appearances for Palace since his arrival.
Munoz becomes Forest’s second major signing of the window, following the club-record £50 million acquisition of striker Liam Delap. He is in contention to make his debut in Saturday’s Premier League fixture against Tottenham Hotspur.
“I’m really excited because I can see so much talent here – Forest is a team with great players, great qualities, and great skills on the pitch,” Munoz said. “I can’t wait to get out there to help my new teammates, and I think we’re going to do great things. This is a club that has fought hard in recent years and reached the Europa League semi-finals. They have even greater objectives for the future, and that’s why I decided to come here.”
Forest’s chief football officer, George Syrianos, praised the defender’s experience and winning pedigree. “Daniel has performed strongly in the Premier League and in European competition, and we believe he has the mentality and ambition to make a significant contribution to the club,” Syrianos stated.
Munoz, who has earned 51 senior caps for Colombia, joins a Forest side that drew 2-2 at Liverpool on Saturday. That result followed back-to-back defeats in their opening two competitive matches of the season, losing to Leeds United in both the Premier League opener and the Carabao Cup.
