Political stakeholders and traditional rulers in Oruk Anam Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State have endorsed the re-election bids of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Governor Umo Eno and other All Progressives Congress candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The stakeholders, under the aegis of the Traditional Rulers Council of Oruk Anam, also expressed concern over what they described as alleged moves by opposition parties to truncate Tinubu’s bid for a second term.
The endorsements were made during an enlarged stakeholders’ meeting held at the Don Etiebet Hall, Oruk Anam Council Secretariat, amid growing political activities ahead of the elections.
The stakeholders unanimously endorsed Akpabio, Eno, the member representing Oruk Anam/Ukanafun Federal Constituency, Unyime Idem, and the member representing Oruk Anam State Constituency, Sampson Idiong, for their respective re-election bids.
Speaking at the meeting, the Chairman of Oruk Anam Local Government Council, Rt. Hon. Sunday Festus, said the endorsement reflected the people-centred leadership and developmental strides of the political leaders across the state and the country.
Festus described the APC candidates as credible and dependable leaders with proven records of service, integrity and commitment to the welfare of the people.
“We are particularly proud of the sellable candidates our party has presented ahead of the forthcoming elections. These are men of integrity, capacity and strong character who have demonstrated genuine commitment to the welfare and development of the people,” he said.
Also speaking, Idiong said the people of Oruk Anam were united in their decision to endorse and adopt the candidatures of Tinubu, Akpabio, Eno and other APC candidates.
He said the stakeholders were not merely preparing to win the 2027 elections but were determined to mobilise and deliver overwhelming bloc votes for the party’s candidates.
Idiong described the endorsement as a demonstration of unity, loyalty and confidence in the leadership of the APC.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Ekem Emmanuel John, and the Senior Special Assistant to the Senate President, Engr. Aniekan Abraham, said the administrations and leadership of the endorsed candidates had been marked by development initiatives, people-oriented policies and projects across various sectors.
Similarly, the Paramount Ruler of Oruk Anam, His Royal Majesty, Engr. J. J. Obosi, led the Traditional Rulers Council, comprising village and clan heads from across the local government area, in declaring their support for the return of the APC candidates in the 2027 elections.
The stakeholders, political leaders and traditional rulers thereafter pledged to work together to secure victory for Tinubu, Akpabio, Eno, Idem, Idiong and other APC candidates at the polls.
