National Democratic Congress (NDC) National Organiser Joseph Yammin has cautioned that the party faces a challenging path towards the 2028 general election, citing the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) early selection of its presidential candidate while the governing party is yet to choose its flagbearer.
Yammin made the remarks at a joint press conference on October 21, 2026, where he formally declared his intention to seek re-election as the NDC’s National Organiser.
He also confirmed that he had collected and submitted his nomination forms for the contest.
He stressed the need for experienced party officials to strengthen the NDC’s organisational structures and coordinate its preparations for the next general election.
According to Yammin, the NPP’s decision to elect its presidential candidate ahead of the NDC gives the opposition party an opportunity to begin focusing on its campaign strategy while the governing party continues with its internal selection process.
He noted that the NDC was yet to settle on a flagbearer for the 2028 elections, describing the difference in the parties’ preparations as a challenge that would require careful planning and effective leadership.
Yammin maintained that experienced leadership would be essential to mobilising party members, strengthening grassroots structures and ensuring the NDC is adequately prepared for the electoral contest.
His comments highlight the growing importance of internal organisation and early campaign planning as Ghana’s two major political parties position themselves for the 2028 general election.
The NDC, which won the 2024 general election, is expected to select its next presidential candidate as part of its preparations for the polls.
The eventual choice will play a significant role in shaping the party’s campaign strategy and mobilisation efforts.
Meanwhile, the NPP’s selection of its flagbearer allows the opposition party to focus on other aspects of its preparations ahead of the election.
