Michael Carrick has a final shot to turn things around at Old Trafford as Man Utd manager
Bournemouth’s Premier League win over Manchester United appeared to signal the end of Michael Carrick’s reign at Old Trafford. The United legend received an incredible reception from Red Devils fans after the match, as the writing appeared to be on the wall for his managerial reign.
Omar Berrada and Jason Wilcox were at the Carrington training complex on Monday morning and speculation had mounted over Ineos pulling the trigger on Carrick’s reign. The Athletic’s Laurie Whitwell took to social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, and shared that Carrick has now received the chance to turn the ship around at Old Trafford. He added that Carrick is currently working with the United coaching staff for Tuesday’s training session at Carrington.
Carrick, who was appointed the seventh permanent head coach in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era back in May, will take charge of the Red Devils for Saturday’s trip to Stamford Bridge to face Premier League side Chelsea. The Premier League clash between United and Chelsea is slated for a 12:30pm kick-off time in the UK.
United are currently 16th in the Premier League table and the Red Devils have only collected seven points from a possible 24 on offer from their opening eight matches. The Red Devils are one point clear of the Premier League relegation zone and United have won once, picked up four draws and suffered three defeats under Carrick so far.
