**I****n an era of political fluidity, Dr. Sule Lamido possess a rare combination of empathy, long-term vision, and resilience that continue to reinforce his reputation not as a political opportunist, but as an authentic nation-builder. **

He is a chieftain and one of the few founding fathers of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who has never defected.

On August 30, 2026, Dr. Lamido has clocked 78 years.

Over these years and as politician for 40 years, Dr. Sule Lamido has clearly stood out in the Nigerian political landscape, leaving a legacy of patriotism, nationalism and loyalty.

His political life is being defined by unwavering party loyalty, high level nationalism, and principled democratic leadership.

In Nigeria, political opportunism is what drives many people in politics, however, Lamido’s mode of politics as Executive Governor of Jigawa State for eight years, Minister of Foreign Affairs for almost three years and chieftain of the party since inception, remains deep-rooted and consistent—even when his actions were perceived as controversial.

He has consistently prioritised national unity and democratic integrity over personal gain and his political life was never rooted in opportunism.

Take a look at his political participation during the Second Republic. His political sojourn as lawmaker was a classic loyalty to the People’s Redemption Party (PRP) and the Party’s leadership under Malam Aminu Kano. He was upright , radical and unshakable. And presently, his consistent loyalty to PDP presents him as a great statesman.

From the inception of PDP to date, Lamido has anchored his political life as a steady pillar through both its tenure as the ruling party and its current role in opposition.

In spite of the party’s many internal challenges, Lamido is driven by the desire to unify rather than divide, he actively advocates for internal party healing—including extending olive branches to contentious figures such as Nyesom Wike, seeking to rebuild the PDP as a formidable force for the common man, rather than engage in destroying the party.

Throughout his national and political life, Dr. Lamido has been pushing for cross-regional alliances,and his strategic moves reflect a broad national interest aimed at stability, peace, and progress, believing strongly that power ultimately belongs to the populace.
