Johnson On Cardoso About Mokoena And Williams Situation In CAF Super Cup Final

Former Al Ahly assistant coach Cavin Johnson has detailed how he might address the current scenarios concerning Ronwen Williams and Teboho Mokoena if he were in Miguel Cardoso role at Mamelodi Sundowns.

The Sundowns players, Mokoena and Williams, are significant uncertainties due to injuries ahead of the eagerly awaited 2026 CAF Super Cup final versus USM Alger.

The ongoing absence of the skilled midfielder and the current captain of Bafana Bafana has brought concern to Masandawana preparations as they aim to secure their second continental Super Cup victory at Loftus Versfeld Stadium.

Compounding the doubts about their health, national team coach Pitso Mosimane has included the two injured athletes in his latest squad of 27 for the upcoming consecutive Africa Cup of Nations AFCON qualifiers against Kenya.

Mosimane indicated that he was offering the essential leaders of the team “the benefit of the doubt” and would wait for final evaluations from the club medical staff after the match on Sunday.

“Sundowns possesses an excellent medical team capable of preparing these athletes for the Super Cup,” Johnson remarked to KickOff. “In my role as the coach, I would put forward my strongest lineup.

The Bafana Bafana medical staff would need to assess how to optimize these players performances. “I would select my most capable team because the Sundowns game is a final. After it concludes, we can deliberate on the subsequent actions.

Never the less, it poses a dilemma, the players well being and the interests of Bafana Bafana must both be taken into account. The fitness team plays a crucial role in gearing up for both matches, especially given the issues with Williams and Mokoena.”
