Jetour takes adventure beyond the road, donates borehole to Iwerekun Orile

What began as a high-octane Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) expedition through some of Lagos’ toughest coastal trails ended on a more profound note at Iwerekun Orile, Ibeju Lekki, where Jetour Nigeria donated and commissioned a solar-powered borehole to provide clean and reliable water to a rural community.

The humanitarian gesture was the defining moment of Jetour Nigeria’s 2026 Africa Expedition last Saturday, September 19, 2026, as a convoy of several SUVs combined an exhibition of automotive power and off-road capability with a community development initiative at the Roman Catholic Mission Primary School, Iwerekun Orile.

The convoy, comprising the Jetour Dashing, X50, X70 Plus, X90 Plus, T2, T2 PHEV, X70 PHEV and flagship G700, departed Falomo Square, Ikoyi, following a road safety briefing by the Federal Road Safety Corps.

With personnel of the Nigeria Police Force and Lagos State Traffic Management Authority providing security and traffic support, the convoy passed through Victoria Island and other parts of Lagos before leaving the city’s familiar urban terrain for the challenging stretches of the Coastal Highway.

Swampy sections, rocky surfaces and uneven trails put the SUVs through demanding conditions, providing a practical demonstration of their endurance, stability and off-road capability.

But the expedition acquired a deeper meaning when the convoy arrived at Iwerekun Orile.

At the Roman Catholic Mission Primary School, Jetour commissioned a new solar-powered borehole designed to provide the school and neighbouring residents with access to clean portable water.

The arrival of the Jetour team triggered excitement in the community, with schoolchildren, traditional leaders, farmers and market women turning out to welcome the visitors with cultural performances.

Jetour also distributed food items to households, while pupils received books and refreshments.

A representative of Jetour Nigeria, Kemi Adeola, said the initiative underscored the company’s belief that its responsibilities should go beyond producing and marketing vehicles.

> “This is where adventure meets purpose. Our mission doesn’t stop at building capable vehicles; it lives in our pledge to drive tangible progress and touch the hearts of the communities we reach,” Adeola said.

The traditional leader of Iwerekun Orile, High Chief Michael Oluwa, described the water project as an unprecedented development in the history of the community and pledged that residents would protect and maintain the facility.

For the head teacher of the school, Mrs Ariyike Bakre, the intervention represented a major improvement in the lives of pupils and residents.

“This is my first time seeing a solar-powered borehole,” Bakre said, describing the facility as a lifetime gift to the school and community.

She expressed appreciation to Jetour for bringing the project to Iwerekun Orile and giving residents an opportunity to witness its commissioning.

The expedition later moved to a beach lounge, where drivers, organisers and participants unwound with food, music and entertainment after the demanding journey.

For Jetour Nigeria, however, the significance of the expedition went beyond conquering difficult terrain or showcasing its growing range of SUVs.

The journey demonstrated how an automotive adventure could be transformed into an opportunity for community impact—leaving Iwerekun Orile with more than memories of a spectacular convoy, but with a lasting source of clean water.
