Kimani names Kenya U23 provisional squad for Afcon qualifiers

Kenya Under-23 football team head coach Anthony Kimani has named his provisional squad ahead of the crucial first round of the 2027 U23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against regional rivals Tanzania.

‎‎​The Emerging Stars will open their qualification journey at home when they host Tanzania at Nyayo National Stadium on September 28, before travelling to Dar es Salaam for the return leg on October 6.

‎‎​The aggregate winner of the two-legged derby will advance to the second round to face West African giants Ivory Coast.

‎‎​Egypt will host the eight-nation continental showpiece in 2027, which serves as the official qualifying pathway for African nations to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.

‎‎​Kimani has summoned an exciting mix of foreign-based talent and proven local Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKF-PL) stars.

‎‎​Highlighting the squad are European-based prodigies including Aldrine Kibet of Celta Vigo, Jack Onganya of Cadiz in Spain, Brooklyn Kazungu of MK Dons in England, goalkeeper Caleb Kramer playing for ADO Den Haag, Netherlands and Humphrey Aroko of Rosengard, Sweden.

‎‎Local talent from Premier League clubs, Gor Mahia, AFC Leopards, Tusker and Nairobi United also form a strong backbone of the team.
