Chairman Wontumi Is Very Sick In Prison And Npp Leaders Are Hiding The Truth – Abronye DC

Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Abronye DC, has dropped a shocking claim about the health of jailed Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.

According to Abronye DC, Chairman Wontumi is seriously ill in detention, and the top leadership of the NPP is hiding the true condition from party members.

Speaking on Ohia TV’s programme “The Evidence”, Abronye DC did not hide his words.

“Let nobody lie to you that Chairman Wontumi is in good health and shape. He is very sick,” he stated plainly.

His statement has caused confusion because it contradicts what the spokesperson of Chairman Wontumi has been saying. Just a few weeks ago, Dr. Palgrave Boakye Danquah visited Wontumi at Nsawam Medium Security Prison and said Wontumi looked well and strong. He said Wontumi was cheerful in a white shirt and black trousers, exchanging pleasantries with his lawyers and supporters.

But Abronye DC insists the real story is different. He says the party’s top brass is keeping the health information from the grassroots.

Chairman Wontumi is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence after being convicted on illegal mining-related charges linked to Akonta Mining Company Limited at Samreboi in the Western Region. He was sentenced in July 2026.

Since his jailing, pressure has been mounting on President John Mahama to grant him clemency. Lawyer Maurice Ampaw is one of those calling for presidential intervention, citing reports that Wontumi’s health has deteriorated seriously in prison.

Even from prison, Wontumi’s team has picked up nomination forms on his behalf to contest the NPP national chairmanship position, showing that he still wants to lead.

For now, two different stories are coming out of the NPP camp. One says Wontumi is fine and strong. The other, from Abronye DC, says he is very sick and the truth is being hidden.

The question many party supporters are now asking is, who is telling the truth about Chairman Wontumi’s health?
