2027 polls: Ex- Taraba rep seeks NASS return, pledges devt, good governance

A former member of the House of Representatives for Buruku Federal Constituency, Kpam Jimin Sokpo, has declared his intention to return to the National Assembly in 2027 on the platform of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), promising good governance and development for his people.  Sokpo, who represented the constituency between 2019 and 2023, said his return would bring more development to the constituency.  Speaking in an interview with newsmen in Makurdi on Friday, he said he decided to seek the seat again following calls from constituents and supporters urging him to return to the House.  According to him, his previous tenure enabled him to initiate several projects and that he demonstrated commitment to the welfare of his constituents, which he said prompted calls for his return in 2027.  Sokpo said he would bring greater experience to the position with a focus on proper representation and effective lawmaking if elected.  He also said the NDC comprised experienced politicians with networks and structures across Benue.  The former lawmaker expressed confidence that the party would perform strongly in the forthcoming national and state elections, saying it had learnt from the challenges it encountered during the 2023 elections.
