The Food Reserve Agency (FRA) has assured that it has put measures in place to secure maize at its storage facilities and prevent spoilage, in areas where rainfall is expected over the next few days, in the Country.
FRA Head of Corporate Communication, John Chipandwe has told ZANIS in a telephone interview that the Agency distributed materials such as tents and chemicals to its depots around the Country.
Mr Chipandwe has explained that the materials were sent to the depots prior to this year’s crop marketing season, adding that more tents are currently being dispatched to areas where they may be needed.
He has indicated that satellite depots serve as temporary purchasing points, noting that maize bought is then transported to the main depots for safe and long-term storage.
According to the Zambia Meteorological Department, isolated rainfall is expected in some parts of the Country between Friday, September 4th to Monday, September 7th, 2026.
Mr Chipandwe further emphasised that fumigation and other scientific measures are conducted regularly, beginning at satellite depots and continuing through to main holding depots.
“So the stock is safe and all necessary measures are being taken to prevent any spoilage,” he assured.
