Two men arrested over US$60,000 armed robbery spree in Lower Gweru
Police have arrested two men in connection with a spate of armed robberies in Lower Gweru in which a Toyota Fortuner, cash and other valuables worth about US$60,000 were stolen.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed on Saturday the arrest of Shepherd Gundani and Edson Sithole for robberies that occurred on 23 September at Insukamini Farm in Lower Gweru.
He said the pair, together with accomplices who are still at large, were armed with pistols, machetes and knives when they allegedly raided three homesteads.
“The ZRP confirms the arrest of Shephered Gundani and Edson Sithole in connection with a series of armed robbery cases which occurred on 23/09/26 at Insukamini Farm, Lower Gweru,” said Commissioner Nyathi.
“The suspects, along with accomplices who are yet to be arrested, were armed with pistols, machetes and knives when they allegedly raided three homesteads in Lower Gweru.
“They threatened and assaulted the victims before stealing cash, several cellphones, a Toyota Fortuner and other valuables worth approximately US$60,000.
“The stolen Toyota Fortuner was subsequently recovered on 25/09/26 in Chivi, where it had been abandoned with a machete and other items concealed beneath the driver’s seat.
“Following the arrest of the suspects, police recovered machetes, knives, torches and other items of evidential value from the suspects’ respective residences.
“Police investigations have further linked the suspects to other armed robbery cases reported in Lalapanzi, Mvuma and Masvingo. “
