Cherargei Revives Ruto 14-Year Presidency Proposal in Fresh Warning
AI summary
Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has threatened to revive his proposal to extend the presidential term limit from five to seven years, claiming that the Opposition lacks a clear plan to compete in the upcoming elections.
Addressing a rally in his Nandi backyard on Monday, October 12, 2026, Cherargei maintained that those opposing President William Ruto stand no chance of victory in the August 2027 polls. He warned that if the Opposition fails to organize a credible agenda by 2032, he will push to amend the Constitution to allow President Ruto to serve for 14 years.
“Your Excellency, these people don’t have an agenda. We want equity. We cannot even talk about 2027 because you have already won.
“Let them start planning from 2032, and if they play around and fail to organize themselves, I will come back with my plan to extend the term limits so that you continue ruling the country,” Cherargei said.
During the address, Cherargei urged President Ruto to focus on national governance while leaving political clashes with Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna to regional allies.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen also dismissed Sifuna’s growing influence, questioning his capacity to challenge the Head of State.
“I saw someone who was my mono in university trying to compete with you. The guy loves Johnny Walker and mukhombero; he cannot compete with you or even hold a meeting like this,” Murkomen stated.
Taking a direct swipe at Sifuna, Murkomen added that law enforcement would step in if the Nairobi Senator was caught consuming illegal brews
Addressing the crowd, President Ruto reaffirmed his readiness to defeat the United Opposition and its sponsors in the 2027 General Election. The Head of State criticized his political opponents, stating that they lack a structured framework to drive economic growth or improve the lives of citizens.
