Former Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Dr Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, has emerged as the leading candidate in the race for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) First Vice Chairman position, according to a new poll by Global InfoAnalytics.
Dr Hamid secured 18.3% of voter preferences, placing him narrowly ahead of former NPP National Youth Organiser Henry Nana Boakye, popularly known as Nana B, and Nana Akomea, who each polled 17.5%.
The figures point to a closely contested race, with just 0.8 percentage points separating Dr Hamid from his two closest challengers.
Kojo Fosu Boadu placed fourth with 5.6%, followed by Masawudu Osman with 4.5% and Richard Ahiagbah with 3.8%.
Yaa A. Frimpong recorded 3.1%, while Abena Pokuaa Amoah polled 1.4%.
Samuel Pyne and Abankwa Yeboah each secured 1.3%.
Other candidates, including Horma Miezah, Bright Essilfie Kumi and Richard Oti Aboagye, recorded 0.7%, 0.1% and 0.0%, respectively.
A significant 19.7% of respondents were undecided, highlighting the fluid nature of the contest ahead of the NPP’s national executive elections scheduled for October.
The size of the undecided bloc could prove significant, particularly given the narrow margins separating the three leading candidates.
A separate Global InfoAnalytics survey on favourability ratings, however, placed Nana Akomea at the top with a net score of +68%.
Dr Mustapha Abdul-Hamid followed with +66%, while Nana Boakye recorded +62%.
The NPP’s national executive elections in October will determine the party’s new national leadership, including the National Chairman, Vice Chairmen, General Secretary and other key positions.
The First Vice Chairman contest is expected to attract particular attention as the party prepares to rebuild and position itself ahead of the 2028 general elections.
With less than a percentage point separating the top three candidates in the latest poll and nearly one in five respondents yet to make a choice, the race remains wide open.
