President Tinubu Condemns Killing Of Islamic Preacher, Directs Security Agencies To Act
According to a report by Punch on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has condemned the killing of prominent Islamic preacher Sheikh Yahaya Masussuka and his friend, Adamu Abubakar, in Dutsin-Ma, Katsina State, directing security agencies to track down those responsible and bring them to justice.
The two men were reportedly killed in a drive-by shooting carried out by gunmen on Monday evening. The incident has raised fresh concerns about the security situation in Katsina State and other parts of Nigeria’s North-West region.
Tinubu expressed sadness over the killings in a statement issued on Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga. The president described the incident as a heinous act and an assault on the values of peace and respect for human life.
He also extended his condolences to the families of the deceased, their followers and the government and people of Katsina State, expressing sympathy with those affected by the incident.
According to the statement, Tinubu instructed the Nigeria Police Force and other relevant security agencies to strengthen their efforts to identify and apprehend the suspects.
“The President has directed the Nigeria Police Force and other relevant security agencies to move swiftly, intensify efforts already underway by the Katsina State Police Command, and ensure the perpetrators are tracked down, apprehended, and brought to justice,” the statement said.
The president also prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased and asked God to comfort their families, followers and others mourning their loss.
The killings come amid continuing security challenges in Katsina State and neighbouring parts of the North-West, where armed groups have been linked to attacks, kidnappings and killings in several communities. The persistent violence has raised concerns among residents and community leaders about the safety of lives and property.
The latest incident has renewed attention on the responsibility of security agencies to investigate violent attacks, identify those involved and prevent further incidents.
However, the presidential statement did not provide additional details about the circumstances surrounding the shooting or confirm whether any suspects had been arrested.
Authorities are expected to continue their investigations as efforts to establish the full circumstances of the killings proceed.
