EuroMatch NPFL: Ranchers Bees fined ₦5 Million over Rivers United matchday 6 incident

Ranchers Bees FC have been fined ₦5 million for breaching the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Frameworks and Rules following their Matchday 6 fixture against Rivers United.

The disciplinary decision comes after an incident at the end of the encounter, with the league authorities taking action over conduct considered to have violated the competition’s regulations.

In addition to the financial penalty, Ranchers Bees have been directed to disclose the identity of a player captured on camera allegedly physically assaulting a Rivers United player following the match.

The directive places an additional responsibility on the club as the league authorities seek to establish the identity of the individual involved in the incident.

The Matchday 6 encounter between Ranchers Bees and Rivers United ended goalless, with both teams sharing the points in Kano.

However, the events surrounding the conclusion of the fixture have now resulted in disciplinary proceedings against the home side.

According to the decision, Ranchers Bees must comply with the directive to identify the player involved, while also paying the stipulated ₦5 million fine for the breach of the NPFL Frameworks and Rules.

The sanction underlines the league’s disciplinary provisions regarding conduct during and immediately after matches, particularly where incidents involving players require further investigation or action.

Ranchers Bees have, however, been given the opportunity to challenge the decision through the established appeals process.

The club has until Thursday, October 1, 2026, to appeal the judgment if it chooses to contest the disciplinary ruling.

The development adds another dimension to the aftermath of the Matchday 6 fixture, which had otherwise ended without a goal at the Kano venue.

Ranchers Bees will now have to decide whether to accept the ruling or exercise their right of appeal before the stipulated deadline.

For Rivers United, the incident comes after a match in which they secured a point away from home, but attention has subsequently shifted to the disciplinary proceedings arising from events after the final whistle.

The NPFL’s action also highlights the importance of maintaining discipline and compliance with competition regulations throughout matchday activities, including incidents that occur after the conclusion of play.

With the appeal deadline fast approaching, the next development will depend on whether Ranchers Bees decide to challenge the ruling or proceed with the sanctions handed down by the league authorities.

The club’s response will determine whether the matter moves further through the NPFL’s disciplinary and appeals process.
