US not going anywhere, ambassador assures Zim

THE United States will maintain its presence in Zimbabwe despite the winding down of its health assistance programmes, US Ambassador Pamela Tremont said Wednesday, signalling Washington’s intention to deepen ties with the country beyond development assistance. Tremont made the remarks as US-supported health programmes prepare to wind up at the end of this month following Zimbabwe’s decision to decline a bilateral health memorandum of understanding (MOU). Speaking at a reception in Harare, Tremont said the end of the health programmes should not be mistaken for a US withdrawal from Zimbabwe.
