Morocco awards MAD 2.7 billion contract for Grand Hassan II Stadium infrastructure

Construction of Morocco’s Grand Hassan II Stadium in Benslimane has moved into a new phase after a 2.7 billion dirham contract was awarded to the CMS-GTR consortium for external infrastructure and site works around the venue.
The 18-month contract requires the consortium to build the roads, access routes, intersections, plazas, pedestrian areas and service lanes needed to move spectators, vehicles and technical crews around the stadium, while connecting the site to water, electricity, telecommunications and drainage networks.
The package is one of the largest infrastructure components surrounding the stadium and will have to be coordinated with contractors handling the main structure, roof, facade, electrical systems and internal utility networks.
CMS-GTR will build internal road networks, entry and exit routes, service roads and open spaces designed to separate spectator traffic from operational and technical movements. The works also include retaining structures, access ramps, walls, stairs, underground conduits, technical galleries and inspection chambers needed to carry and maintain the stadium’s different networks.
Water management forms another major part of the contract. The consortium will install systems for rainwater and wastewater collection, retention, evacuation and treatment, along with drainage channels and related hydraulic equipment.
External utility connections will bring drinking water, electricity, telecoms, fibre-optic links and internet services to the stadium. The contract also covers high- and low-voltage electrical networks across the surrounding site.
Security and crowd circulation infrastructure will include fencing, barriers, gates, access-control points and systems designed to separate different categories of stadium users during large events.
The consortium will also complete pavements, pedestrian routes, technical paths, plazas and surface finishes, while carrying out landscaping, tree planting, green-space development and irrigation works.
Outdoor furniture and equipment, including seating, barriers, railings, signage and fixed protective elements, are also included.
The contract will not end with construction. CMS-GTR must test, calibrate and commission the external systems before handover, meaning delivery will depend on whether the roads, utilities, drainage, access-control systems and surrounding infrastructure operate together as a functioning whole.
