Police put motorists on notice over vehicle ownership transfers
Motorists who sell vehicles without ensuring that ownership records are transferred could remain liable for traffic violations committed by subsequent drivers, police have warned, raising the stakes for sellers as authorities expand electronic traffic monitoring. National police spokesperson Paul Nyathi said vehicle owners were required to change ownership within two weeks under what he described as the current vehicle registration regulations, warning that sellers could still be treated as traffic offenders if buyers failed to register vehicles in their own names. “The challenge which we have is that most of us in Zimbabwe don't want to change vehicle ownership,” Nyathi said during a road safety engagement with journalists.
