4 Ways Nigerian Tech Workers Can Move to Canada Beyond Express Entry

If you're a Nigerian tech worker looking to build a career abroad, Express Entry isn't Canada's only immigration option. Depending on your skills, job prospects, and personal circumstances, there are other routes worth exploring.

Some programmes allow eligible applicants to apply for permanent residence directly, while others provide temporary work authorisation that may offer a route to longer-term settlement. The requirements vary, so understanding the differences can help you decide where to focus your efforts.

Here are four pathways Nigerian tech workers can consider when planning a move to Canada.

How to Find UK Jobs With Visa Sponsorship in 2026Thousands of UK jobs are advertised every day, but here’s how to find the ones where Visa sponsorship may actually be available.

/1. Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP)

The Atlantic Immigration Program is a permanent residence pathway for skilled foreign workers and eligible international graduates who want to live and work in one of Canada's four Atlantic provinces: New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland and Labrador.

Unlike Express Entry, the programme requires candidates to secure a qualifying job offer from an employer designated to participate in the AIP.

The employer must also meet the programme's requirements, and candidates need an endorsement from the relevant province before submitting their permanent residence application.

• Does it lead to permanent residence?

Yes. Eligible candidates can apply for permanent residence through the programme.

• Requirements:

You need a qualifying job offer from a designated employer, meet the applicable education and work experience requirements, and demonstrate language proficiency. The minimum language requirement is Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 5 for jobs classified under TEER categories 0 to 3, and CLB 4 for TEER 4 jobs. Foreign education may require an educational credential assessment.

• What to know:

This route is worth considering if you're willing to work outside Canada's larger technology hubs. But you must find an eligible employer and secure a qualifying offer; simply applying for jobs in Atlantic Canada does not make you eligible.
