Liberians struggling with eye-related illnesses and other medical conditions are expected to benefit from improved and affordable healthcare services following the construction and opening of a modern eye and general health center in Weala, Margibi County, by Indian business tycoon and Chief Executive Officer of Jeety Rubber Limited Liability Company, Dr. Upjit Singh Sachdeva.

The facility, valued at more than US$1 million, is named the Jeety Rubber Health Center and Guru Nanak Eye Clinic. Completed and officially opened in October 2026, the center represents a major private-sector investment aimed at expanding access to quality healthcare services and reducing the burden of medical expenses on ordinary Liberians.

The modern healthcare facility is equipped with several departments, including a reception area, pharmacy, optical unit, diagnostic and testing centers, operating rooms, and other medical facilities designed to provide specialized eye care and general medical services. Among the services offered are comprehensive eye examinations, surgical operations for critical eye conditions, treatment of eye infections, provision of eye drops, and prescription and supply of eyeglasses. The facility is reportedly equipped to manage approximately 95 percent of eye-related conditions, providing renewed hope for patients who previously faced challenges accessing specialized treatment.

According to the facility’s management, employees of Jeety Rubber will receive medical services free of charge, while members of the general public will benefit from treatment at affordable rates. The cost of quality eyeglasses reportedly ranges from less than US$5 to US$15, while certain eye surgical procedures are expected to cost no more than US$25.

Speaking to journalists during a visit to the newly constructed facility over the weekend, specialized eye physician Dr. NiranJan Pehere disclosed that preliminary assessments indicate that glaucoma and cataracts are among the major eye conditions affecting patients in Liberia. Dr. Pehere explained that cataracts predominantly affect older people, while glaucoma can gradually damage eyesight and lead to serious vision loss if not diagnosed and treated early. He emphasized the importance of regular eye examinations and timely medical intervention to prevent avoidable blindness.

He further assured the public that the center is adequately equipped to manage several eye-related conditions and is prepared to receive patients from across Liberia and neighboring countries. Additional specialized eye surgeons and medical professionals are also expected to be brought into the country to strengthen the facility’s capacity and improve service delivery.

Meanwhile, Dr. Sachdeva expressed satisfaction over the completion of the project, revealing that establishing a modern eye and general health center had been a vision he nurtured for more than two years. He reaffirmed his commitment to Liberia’s development, noting that he considers himself a Liberian and remains passionate about contributing to the country’s progress through investments that directly improve the lives of ordinary citizens.

The initiative also highlights the importance of private-sector participation in strengthening Liberia’s healthcare system, particularly in specialized areas where many citizens face financial and accessibility challenges. In addition to providing medical services, the facility’s management has indicated plans to expand eye-health awareness campaigns into communities across Liberia, with the objective of educating residents about eye diseases, encouraging early diagnosis, and reducing preventable blindness.

For his part, former Weala Commissioner Roland Johnson praised Jeety Rubber Company and Dr. Sachdeva for the investment, describing the project as a significant contribution to healthcare delivery in Margibi County and the country at large. Johnson noted that the establishment of the facility would provide an important opportunity for residents to access specialized medical attention closer to home while commending Dr. Sachdeva for his continued contributions to Liberia’s growth and development.

The opening of the Jeety Rubber Health Center and Guru Nanak Eye Clinic is expected to strengthen healthcare access in Margibi County and beyond, demonstrating how private investment and social responsibility can contribute to national development and improve the well-being of communities.
