Victoria University, BBS Terefayina Seal Strategic Media Partnership

KAMPALA — Victoria University has officially cemented a strategic, long-term partnership with BBS Terefayina (BBS Terefayina Terefayina eyaffe), the flagship media outlet owned by the Buganda Kingdom, signing a comprehensive Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) designed to foster educational collaboration, practical learning, and media innovation.

The historic signing ceremony took place at the university campus, bringing together key executives from both institutions to formalize a joint commitment toward empowering students through hands-on experience and institutional synergy.

The Vice-Chancellor of Victoria University, Dr. Lawrence Muganga, signed the agreement on behalf of the university, while the Managing Director of BBS Terefayina, Eng. Patrick Sembajjo, executed the deal on behalf of the Buganda Kingdom-owned television station.

The signing was witnessed by key corporate and academic leaders, including Victoria University’s Compliance and Relations Manager, Ms. Racheal Ayebare, and the Co-operative Education Office Manager, Dr. Shamim K. Matovu.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Muganga emphasized that the collaboration directly aligns with Victoria University’s core mandate of delivering experiential learning and produce job-ready graduates who possess real-world skills needed in today’s rapidly changing media ecosystem.

Under the university’s Co-operative Education model, students are systematically integrated into industry environments well before graduation.

“Our goal is to bridge the gap between classroom theory and actual industry practice. Partnering with a premier broadcaster like BBS Terefayina ensures that our journalism, communication, and digital media students gain direct exposure to professional broadcasting standards, media management, and modern digital journalism,” Dr. Muganga noted during the signing.

On his part, Eng. Patrick Sembajjo commended Victoria University for its progressive approach to higher education and innovation. He highlighted that BBS Terefayina remains dedicated to offering a vibrant platform where young talents can hone their creative, technical, and reporting skills alongside veteran media professionals.

“As a community-focused media giant, BBS Terefayina is thrilled to welcome Victoria University into this partnership. We believe this synergy will not only nurture the next generation of top-tier broadcasters and media strategists but will also drive impactful storytelling that resonates with our audience and uplifts communities across Uganda,” Eng. Sembajjo stated.

The long-term Memorandum of Understanding establishes a framework for student industrial placements, practical internships, specialized training workshops, joint media research initiatives, and collaborative community outreach projects. It also opens avenues for both institutions to co-create educational programming and leverage each other’s brand strengths for national transformation.

This strategic alliance marks a major milestone for Victoria University as it continues to expand its network of corporate and industrial partners, guaranteeing that its higher education offerings remain intimately connected to the evolving demands of the job market.
