Two Manchester United Academy Players To Join First Team Ahead Of Como Fixture
According to a report by Manchester evening News on Tuesday October 20, 2026, Manchester United have given two academy defenders the opportunity to train with the first team ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League fixture against Como, as Michael Carrick prepared to face the European tie.
The Red Devils are set to travel to Italy in attempt to respond after disappointing results, with Carrick also dealing with number of fitness issues. Number of senior players have reportedly missed training ahead of the crucial encounter.
Leny Yoro has been suspended after his red card against Atletico Madrid, while worries over other defenders and midfielders have also forced Carrick to consider other options for Wednesday’s match.
With a number of senior players potentially missing the match, academy prospects Dan Armer and Jaydan Kamason have joined in first team training, giving both young players the opportunity to gain the experience ahead of United’s trip to Italy.
Armer’s inclusion follows up an important milestone last week, when centre-back was included on United’s senior matchday bench for the first time against Atletico Madrid, although he did not make his competitive debut.
The defender previously captained United’s Under-18 side to the FA Youth Cup final last season and has continued to impress with Under-21 team during the current campaign.
Armer started off the Premier League 2 season strongly, scoring during the opening 5-0 victory over Ipswich Town before assisting his teammates to secure further wins against Leicester City and Brentford.
Under-21 coach Adam Lawrence has commended Armer’s attitude and development, explaining that the club have recognised his talents and potential for a considerable period of time.
His progress has also seen him named on Manchester United’s Champions League B-list, making him eligible for selection in the competition if required.
Meanwhile, Kamason is continuing on his journey to a potential senior debut after progressing through United’s academy system and Emerging Talent Programme.
The right-back became the first player to secure a scholarship after progressing through that pathway before eventually signing a professional contract with the club.
The 19-year-old has gained experience with both the Under-18s and Under-21s and has featured in senior pre-season matches against Wrexham, Rosenborg and Atletico Madrid.
However, Kamason still has to wait for his competitive first-team debut, making this training opportunity another chance for him to learn alongside United’s senior players and coaching staff.
