Late September: Elite Stage Racing & Karoo Pass Classics
From 22–26 September 2026, the action focuses on the prestigious Momentum Medical Scheme Cape Pioneer Trek. Known as the “Race with Soul,” this iconic multi-stage mountain bike race challenges riders over rugged terrain, taking participants from the coastal tracks of Wilderness, over the Outeniqua ridges, and deep into the heart of Oudtshoorn.
Running alongside the Cape Pioneer Trek, Eden Cycling hosts the SA Youth Road, Time Trial & Criterium Championships in Oudtshoorn from 24–27 September 2026, where top national talent competes across three disciplines for jersey titles.
September culminates on 27 September 2026 with the historic 25th edition of the Lions Karoo to Coast. The massive 100 km off-road challenge sends thousands of riders from Uniondale across Prince Alfred’s Pass down to Knysna.
October: Passes, Valleys & Gravel Challenges
October opens on 3 October 2026 with the 7Weekspoort MTB Challenge near Ladismith, taking cyclists directly through the towering cliffs of a UNESCO-protected gorge. The next day, road cyclists head to the Breede River Valley for the Tour de Worcester (4 October 2026).
Midway through the month, the Prince George 50 Miler (17 October 2026) challenges gravel racers on an epic route from Oudtshoorn over the Swartberg Pass to Prince Albert. Finishing off October, the Cape Classic 380 (23–25 October 2026) provides a three-day, 340 km escorted peloton tour around Montagu.
