PayJustNow Mobile has started rolling out to select individuals as parent company Weaver Fintech fine-tunes the MVNO's rewards structures.
Weaver Fintech has begun rolling out PayJustNow Mobile, a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) on the Cell C network.
Weaver Ventures managing executive Andre Hugo announced the launch on LinkedIn, revealing that the rollout started on Thursday, 27 August 2026.
PayJustNow is a South African fintech company best known for its buy-now-pay-later service, which lets shoppers split purchases into instalments while the retailer receives the purchase price upfront.
Its core Pay-in-3 product divides a purchase into three equal payments. The first is paid at checkout, followed by two subsequent monthly instalments.
It is interest-free for customers who pay on time. However, penalty fees are not its primary source of revenue. PayJustNow’s income comes mainly from charging participating merchants a transaction fee.
It has also expanded into B2B merchant marketing and services, offering businesses targeted advertisements and referral traffic from PayJustNow’s large consumer base.
PayJustNow has also launched a longer-term Pay-in-12 product, called PayStretch, which accrues interest at over 28% per annum, as well as fees.
In its latest annual report for the financial year ended 31 December 2025, Weaver Fintech said PayJustNow had a base of 3.7 million signed-up customers.
Registered PayJustNow customers made up a significant proportion of its total buy-now-pay-later (BNPL) base, which reached 4.3 million during the year.
PayJustNow reached a cumulative milestone of 9.4 million transactions, with over 3,450 active merchants (up 21% YoY) operating across 12,324 active points of presence (up 23% YoY).
Weaver Fintech CEO Sean Wibberley said the company uses PayJustNow as an entry point into its larger ecosystem. “It allows us to acquire customers virally at scale and at low cost,” he said.
“From there we deepen the relationship through extended payment terms, lending, insurance and increasingly personalised experiences within our platform.”
Wibberley said that as customers engage more and take up additional products within the Weaver ecosystem, their value grows significantly.
“A single-product customer generates around R1,176 in annual revenue, increasing to over R10,000 for two products and more than R18,000 for customers with five or more,” he said.
Hugo said that PayJustNow Mobile was developed specifically to increase engagement within the broader Weaver Fintech ecosystem.
He explained that positive interactions across the ecosystem would earn airtime as a reward. In exchange, Weaver gets a fuller picture of the customer’s overall consumer profile.
“Purchase behaviour, repayment behaviour, and connectivity behaviour all enrich the same picture,” said Hugo.
“I am super proud of the team for building this new feature for the Weaver ecosystem. Looking forward to the next few months as we get customer feedback and add value to her life.”
PayJustNow’s strategy of offering customers airtime or data rewards through its MVNO is not unique. However, with such a large existing registered base to launch from, it could become a significant player.
MyBroadband opened a PayJustNow (PJN) account using the service’s mobile app to test the mobile service, but unfortunately, it was not available as described on the platform’s support website.
Contacted for comment, Hugo said that while PJN Mobile was live, it was being rolled out in phases to different cohorts of existing users to validate reward behaviours and unit economics.
“The first cohort was internal staff. Starting next week, we will extend the offering to a cohort of our BNPL customers, then our insurance and lastly our loans customers in the month of September,” said Hugo.
“Based on their feedback, we anticipate PJN being open to all new users in the next month or two.”
Screenshots published on the PayJustNow website indicate that the company is considering offering 500MB of free WhatsApp data per month for 6 months.
Additionally, customers could earn up to R200 airtime every month for paying their funeral premiums, loans, or first BNPL on time.
No data or voice bundle prices for PJN Mobile were listed on the company’s website, nor were its out-of-bundle prices.
However, the support website states that subscribers will be opted in to out-of-bundle data charges by default. They can opt out through a USSD menu.
It also shows that PJN Mobile will feature a customer bundle builder interface, similar to those offered by Afrihost AirMobile and Melon Mobile.
