Republic Bank (Ghana) PLC is returning mortgage lending to the center of its growth strategy in Ghana. The bank’s Managing Director, Benjamin Dzoboku, said this means returning the institution to its original purpose as a mortgage finance organization that later became a commercial bank, MyJoyOnline reports.
According to Dzoboku, Republic Bank currently holds more than 38% of the country’s mortgage market. By the end of 2026, the bank expects to increase this figure to 40–42%. He explained that management decided to refocus on the area for which the company was originally created.
Partnerships and lending products
Mortgage financing is one of the key areas of Republic Bank’s five-year strategic plan. In December 2025, the bank signed a memorandum of understanding with State Housing Company Limited. Under the partnership, the company will provide housing, while the bank will provide mortgage loans to eligible clients.
The bank said it works with more than 110 developers. Its products are intended for Ghanaian citizens living in the country or abroad, first-time and repeat homebuyers, salaried employees, self-employed professionals, and business owners.

The Home Purchase Mortgage program provides eligible residents with financing of up to 100% of the property’s value and loan terms of up to 20 years in Ghanaian cedis. The bank’s mortgage portfolio also includes loans for completing construction, home improvements, building one’s own home, land purchases, and other specialized products.
Housing affordability
Dzoboku had previously described housing affordability as one of the main challenges in Ghana’s market. Among the factors making property purchases more difficult, he highlighted low household incomes, high borrowing costs, and land-related difficulties.
From September 25 to 27, 2026, the Republic Bank JoyNews Habitat Fair is scheduled to take place at Junction Mall in Nungua. As part of the partnership between Republic Bank and Multimedia Group, the event is intended to give prospective homebuyers and investors access to developers, financial institutions, and information on financing and property purchase options.
