The Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) says electricity has been restored to some of the parts of Accra that lost power after a fire at its Mallam Substation, and that work is continuing to bring back supply to the rest.
In a press statement issued in Tema on October 14, 2026, the company said it is working to restore power to the remaining areas as quickly as possible.
The outage followed a fault at the substation at 2:36 a.m. on Wednesday, which started a fire on one of its transformers. The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) responded and put out the fire.
GRIDCo said its engineers are investigating the cause of the fire, and the process of replacing the damaged transformer has begun. The company did not say when the new transformer will be installed.
It apologised for the inconvenience and thanked customers and stakeholders for their patience and understanding.
