Zimbabwe has been plunged into mourning for the second time this month, after 25 people died in a road crash along the Harare-Chivhu Highway on Friday night.
The accident occurred when an overloaded kombi collided head-on with a haulage truck.
According to ZBC News, Mashonaland East Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Advocate Itayi Ndudzo, confirmed that 23 people died at the scene, while two others succumbed to their injuries after being admitted to hospital.
Two survivors, including the haulage truck driver, are said to be in a critical condition and are receiving treatment in hospital.
The horrific crash comes less than three weeks after 97 people drowned when the ferry they were travelling on, the RIDA Mbuya Nehanda, capsized on Lake Kariba.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police and the Civil Protection Unit are at the scene assisting with clearance operations.
