Kano Assembly Begins Review of State Police Bill
The Kano State House of Assembly has commenced the legislative review of the proposed State Police Bill following its formal receipt by the House.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday by Kamaluddeen Sani Shawai, Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker of the Assembly.
The statement said copies of the Bill had been circulated to all lawmakers for “in-depth study, analysis and possible input for improvement where necessary.”
It added that the Bill had already been read on the floor of the House during a recent plenary session, giving members the opportunity to commence its consideration in line with legislative procedures.
According to the statement, the Bill is expected to be scheduled for second reading on October 12, 2026, for further deliberation by the lawmakers.
Speaking on the development, Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Jibril Isma’il Falgore, said the state was prepared to confront its security challenges through proactive measures.
Falgore said Kano remained “relatively peaceful compared to many other states in the country,” but stressed that proactive legislation was necessary to sustain and strengthen the state’s security framework.
The Speaker reiterated that Kano was “fully committed and prepared to confront security challenges head-on,” adding that legislative action was important to reinforce existing security measures in the state.
