TEITI calls for transparency and timely reporting on Tanzania’s mineral, oil and natural gas revenues

DODOMA: THE Tanzania Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (TEITI) has called on institutions responsible for reporting revenues from the country’s mineral, oil and natural gas resources to submit the required information on time to strengthen transparency and accountability in the management of national resources.

The call was made today, September 22, 2026, by TEITI Committee Chairman Ambassador Wilson Masilingi while speaking to journalists in Dodoma. He stressed the importance of institutions fulfilling their legal obligations by submitting the required information before legal action is taken against those that fail to comply.

Ambassador Masilingi said TEITI is responsible for overseeing and verifying revenue information generated from mining, oil and natural gas activities, monitoring whether the revenues are accurately reported and ultimately ensuring that the country’s natural resources benefit the public.

He said cooperation among relevant institutions is critical to fulfilling this mandate, particularly by ensuring that revenue and payment information from the extractive sectors is submitted on time, accurately and transparently.

Institutions required to submit information to TEITI and subject to its monitoring include the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA), Mining Commission, Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC), Tanzania Forest Services Agency (TFS), National Environment Management Council (NEMC) and the Office of the Treasury Registrar.

Other institutions include social security funds, the Workers Compensation Fund (WCF), Local Government Authorities, the Weights and Measures Agency (WMA), the Tanzania Investment and Special Economic Zones Authority (TISEZA), the Petroleum Upstream Regulatory Authority (PURA), and the Occupational Safety and Health Authority (OSHA).

The initiative is intended to strengthen transparency mechanisms in Tanzania’s mining, oil and natural gas sectors by enabling relevant authorities to obtain accurate information on revenues generated from these resources and monitor how those revenues are collected and managed for the benefit of the nation.
