Nations League: Zidane names Dembele France captain after Mbappe leaves camp

France winger, Ousmane Dembele, will captain the national team in their upcoming Nations League clash against Belgium on Monday.

Dembele’s appointment comes after Kylian Mbappe left the squad due to injury.

Mbappe scored the only goal as France secured a 1-0 victory over Turkey in their previous match on Friday.

However, the Real Madrid forward sustained a tendon injury to his left knee during the encounter in Kocaeli and was subsequently ruled out of the Belgium clash.

The French Football Federation has already confirmed that Mbappe will not travel to Belgium.

The forward has flown back to Madrid to begin his rehabilitation process.

L’Equipe reports that Dembele is set to captain the national team for the very first time in his career.
