Dollar to Naira Exchange Rate Today, October 19, 2026: Official and Black Market Rates

According to Vanguard on Monday, October 19, 2026 The dollar-to-naira exchange rate opened the new trading week on Monday, October 19, 2026, with the naira trading at approximately ₦1,333.54 per dollar in the official Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market (NFEM), according to available exchange-rate data.

Meanwhile, the parallel market, commonly known as the black market, continues to record higher dollar rates, with Bureau De Change (BDC) operators reportedly buying and selling the US currency at different prices depending on their location, availability of forex and transaction size.

The difference between the official and parallel market rates remains an important consideration for individuals and businesses seeking to exchange foreign currency for international payments, travel, imports and other financial transactions.

The available exchange-rate figures for Monday, October 19, 2026, are as follows:

– Official NFEM rate: Approximately ₦1,333.54 per dollar.

– Black market buying rate: Approximately ₦1,375 per dollar.

– Black market selling rate: Approximately ₦1,390 per dollar.

These figures provide an indication of the prevailing exchange rates at the beginning of the trading week. However, parallel market rates are indicative and may differ among currency dealers and across locations in Nigeria.

The actual rate available to a customer may also depend on the amount of dollars being exchanged and the dealer’s prevailing terms.

The naira ended the previous trading week relatively stable in the official foreign exchange market.

Available figures indicate that the local currency closed at approximately ₦1,332.26 per dollar on Friday, October 16, 2026.

In the parallel market, the dollar reportedly sold for around ₦1,370 during the same period.

Compared with Friday’s official closing rate, the reported NFEM rate of ₦1,333.54 on Monday represents a slight increase in the amount of naira required to purchase one dollar.

This movement highlights the importance of monitoring daily foreign exchange updates, as even relatively small changes in the exchange rate can affect businesses and individuals with dollar-denominated expenses.

The gap between the official exchange rate of ₦1,333.54 per dollar and the parallel market selling rate of ₦1,390 stands at approximately ₦56.46 per dollar.

This means that buyers purchasing dollars at the reported parallel market selling rate would pay about ₦56.46 more for each dollar than the official NFEM benchmark.

For someone exchanging $100, the difference would amount to approximately ₦5,646, while a $1,000 transaction would produce a difference of about ₦56,460, assuming the quoted rates remain unchanged.

However, the official NFEM rate is a market benchmark and may not be the exact rate available to every individual or business through a bank or authorised foreign exchange provider.

The naira’s performance against the US dollar is influenced by several factors, including foreign currency supply, demand for dollars, international oil prices, capital inflows and broader economic developments.

Demand for foreign currency from importers, manufacturers, travellers and businesses making international payments can also influence market conditions.

The availability of dollars through official channels remains an important factor in determining how the exchange rate moves. Changes in investor confidence and developments in the global currency market may also affect the naira’s performance.

Market participants will continue to monitor movements in the official and parallel markets as the new trading week progresses.

Although the available figures suggest relative stability in the official market, exchange rates can change throughout the day in response to shifting supply and demand conditions.

Individuals and businesses are therefore advised to confirm the prevailing dollar-to-naira rate with their banks or licensed foreign exchange dealers before completing transactions.
