Hamzat Tasks Nigerian Youths On Discipline, Integrity, Responsibility

Lagos State deputy governor and governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos for the 2027 elections, Dr Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, has urged Nigerian youths to embrace integrity, discipline and responsibility.

Hamzat, who spoke at the 2026 youth programme of The Lord’s Charismatic Revival Ministries, themed, “The Youth That Knows The Lord,” held “n Lagos, urged them to combine faith with discipline, integrity and responsibility.

He said Nigeria needs a generation that will succeed personally and also deploy their talents and values to improve their communities and contribute to national development.

“Knowing the Lord goes beyond merely knowing His name. Genuine knowledge of God should influence the choices young people make, how they treat others, their work ethic, and their conduct, especially when no one is watching,” he said.

According to him, a generation grounded in strong character and values is essential to building a peaceful, prosperous and just Nigeria.

Hamzat noted that with greater opportunity comes greater responsibility.

“Nigeri” needs young people who will not only succeed personally but will also make their communities better. Young people who will tell the truth, reject violence, refuse to cheat, and respect public resources. Young people who insist that leadership is about service, not privilege. And your faith must shape the way you participate in society,” he said.

Harping on the importance of character over ambition, the Deputy Governor stated that a generation that knows the Lord should not be passive, but one that brings truth where there is deception, peace where there is conflict, compassion where there is suffering, and integrity where there is temptation.

While acknowledging that talent, education, connections and ambition are important, he warned that without character, such advantages can become liabilities.

On the Government’s commitment to developing Nigerian youth, he described Lagos as a city of opportunities where young people can turn ideas into businesses, skills into livelihoods, and talent into impact.

He assured that the Lagos State government remains committed to providing education, skills development, employment pathways, and opportunities for youths to fulfil their potential.

However, he stressed that the Government alone cannot build character, saying, “Government can create opportunities; it cannot create character. That responsibility belongs to all of us — families, schools, communities, faith institutions, and ultimately, the young people themselves.”

He also urged them to participate responsibly in the democratic process by asking questions, examining issues, voting wisely, and rejecting violence, intimidation and vote-buying.

Dr Hamzat commended the General Overseer of The Lord’s Charismatic Revival Ministries, Pastor Lazarus Muoka, for his vision for the church and for Nigerian youths, particularly in Lagos State.

In response, Pastor Muoka prayed for Nigeria, Mr President, Dr Hamzat, and his running mate, and urged them to govern with the fear of God.
