NUC okays 2 engineering programmes for Western Delta varsity

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved two new full-time undergraduate engineering programmes at Western Delta University, Oghara, Delta State, effective from the 2026/2027 academic session.

The programmes are Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) in Computer Engineering and Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, both to be offered at the university’s main campus.

The approval followed a resource verification visit by a panel of experts to assess the institution’s human and material resources for the establishment and delivery of the programmes.

In a letter addressed to the Vice-Chancellor and signed by its Director of Academic Planning, Abubakar M. Girei, on behalf of the Executive Secretary, the commission said the approval covered only the full-time mode of study.

It stressed that the university must obtain separate approval before offering either programme on a part-time basis.

“Before the part-time mode of any undergraduate programme can commence, a request should be forwarded to the commission for further processing,” the letter stated.

The NUC also directed that both programmes must operate strictly under their approved titles, with any proposed change requiring the commission’s prior approval.

It charged the university to maintain adequate academic staff and material resources to support the sustained development and growth of the programmes, in conformity with the Core Curriculum and Minimum Academic Standards (CCMAS) for the Nigerian University System.

The approval expands Western Delta University’s academic offerings in engineering and technology and enables it to admit students into the two programmes from the 2026/2027 session, subject to continued compliance with the commission’s requirements.
