Troops of the Nigerian Army, in collaboration with other security agencies, have rescued a kidnap victim, identified as Prince Micheal Akao, and neutralised three suspected kidnappers in Edo State.
The operation was carried out in Sasaro Forest, Akoko-Edo Local Government Area, on Sunday, October 11, 2026, following an intelligence tip-off, according to the Army.
The Army said troops of the 195 Battalion (Rear), working with other security agencies, conducted a search operation in the forest, leading to the victim’s rescue and the neutralisation of the three suspected kidnappers.
The troops also recovered three locally fabricated guns, nine cartridges and other items during the operation.
The rescued victim was evacuated to a hospital for medical attention and was responding to treatment, the Army said.
It added that the recovered items had been handed over to the Department of State Services (DSS), while the bodies of the suspected kidnappers were in the custody of the Nigeria Police Force.
The Army said it would sustain intelligence-driven operations with other security agencies to dismantle kidnapping networks, deny criminal elements safe havens and protect communities.
It added that the operation was part of ongoing efforts to strengthen security and prevent criminals from using forested areas to threaten lives and public safety.
