The six-month-old baby, Fatima, abducted alongside her parents at Alrahus Estate, Millennium City, in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, is still alive, a family source has told Daily Trust.
The source dismissed social media reports claiming that the baby had died in captivity, saying she remained with her parents in the hands of their abductors.
“It’s not true. The baby is alive, and she is fine. This is all I can tell you,” the source, who requested anonymity, told Daily Trust.
The source appealed to Nigerians to pray for the safe return of the captives.
A recent video circulating on social media on Tuesday showed the unclothed infant crying in her father’s arms as an armed bandit pointed a gun at him while he and his wife pleaded for mercy.
The video has sparked widespread outrage, with many Nigerians calling on the government and security agencies to intervene and secure the victims’ release.
It was gathered that Ahmed Abubakar Zakka, his wife and their six-month-old daughter were abducted from their residence in Millennium City on October 6, 2026.
A family member had earlier told Daily Trust that Zakka and his wife were both orphans who had been married for six years without a child before welcoming Fatima.
The family member said the couple had grown up without their parents and had waited for years to have a child before the arrival of their daughter.
In the viral video, Zakka was seen holding the crying infant while an armed bandit pointed a gun at his head.
The video also showed the couple pleading for mercy as they appealed to the authorities to secure their release.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has also called on security agencies to take the necessary steps to rescue the couple and other vulnerable Nigerians held by bandits.
