Shatta Wale Blasts Dampare Over 2021 Arrest, Says Jail Record Has Damaged His Life
According to a post on Pulse Ghana Official account on Saturday, 2026, Ghanaian dancehall star Shatta Wale has renewed his criticism of former Inspector-General of Police (IGP) George Akuffo Dampare, claiming that his 2021 arrest and time in custody have left a lasting mark on his life.
The musician expressed his frustration during a TikTok Live session on October 23, 2026, saying the experience could create difficulties whenever he is asked about his record while travelling abroad. <Cite refs={[“turn330960news4”]}/>
Shatta Wale, whose real name is Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr., questioned why he had to spend time in custody, insisting that he had not committed offences such as stealing or robbery. He also accused the former police chief of damaging his reputation through the incident.
The controversy dates back to October 2021, when the musician was arrested following a false report about an alleged shooting incident involving him. The Ghana Police Service investigated the incident after claims circulated that he had been attacked.
Shatta Wale subsequently appeared before an Accra Circuit Court, where he pleaded not guilty to a charge of publishing false news and causing fear and panic. He was remanded into custody for one week before being granted bail. <Cite refs={[“turn330960search3″,”turn330960search5”]}/>
The incident attracted considerable public attention at the time, partly because of the musician’s popularity and the debate surrounding the spread of misinformation.
His latest comments show that the experience remains a source of frustration years later. However, his statements about the lasting consequences reflect his personal account of the incident and do not independently establish that he has a criminal conviction.
Shatta Wale’s remarks have once again brought his strained relationship with Dampare into the spotlight, reopening discussion about the arrest and its impact on the musician’s life and public image.
