FM probes with EU security chief developments in Red Sea, Horn of Africa
Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty received a phone call from Kaja Kallas, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.
Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ambassador Nader Zaki said on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, that the call addressed bilateral relations between Egypt and the European Union and ways to develop and strengthen them. The two officials also discussed a number of regional and international issues of common interest.
The spokesman explained that the two officials discussed the rapidly unfolding developments in the Red Sea region and the Horn of Africa, as well as ways to de-escalate tensions and prevent their further expansion.
They reaffirmed the need to respect the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of states, and to intensify regional and international efforts to contain crises and create the conditions conducive to restoring security and stability.
They also stressed the importance of continuing coordination with the European Union to support de-escalation efforts and reach sustainable settlements to regional crises.
The talks also addressed Egypt’s pivotal and constructive role in de-escalating tensions, promoting political and diplomatic solutions, and maintaining the ongoing and distinguished coordination between Egypt and the European Union to achieve this common objective.
