Raila Junior Speaks A Day After Jacaranda Heckling

Raila Odinga Junior has broken his silence a day after a tense moment at the ODM Mwezi wa Baba rally. The event took place at Jacaranda Grounds in Nairobi on 31 October 2026. It was meant to close a month of tributes marking one year since the death of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

Senior party figures attended the gathering. They included Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja and Treasury CS John Mbadi. Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga and Minority Leader Junet Mohamed were also present. The rally later turned chaotic when unidentified people grabbed the microphone and disrupted the programme.

When Junior took the stage some people in the crowd heckled him. Videos soon spread online showing his reply. He told the crowd “Boss tuliaaaa! Huoni hii kazi ni ngumu sana kwangu?” which means Boss calm down. Do you not see this work is very hard for me?

Some people laughed at the remark. Others called it an awkward episode for the son of the late ODM founder. Junior is trying to build his own political profile and is reportedly eyeing the Kibra parliamentary seat.

A day later Junior posted on X with laughing emojis and a clip from the rally. He wrote that the work is hard and asked everyone to relax. He added that he is learning every day. He also thanked ODM for giving him another chance at the historic grounds and said every moment is growth.

The timing matters. ODM faces internal tensions and a fierce contest for influence in Nairobi ahead of 2027. Jacaranda has become a symbolic battleground after it earlier hosted a large Linda Mwananchi gathering.

Supporters and critics are now debating whether his light tone truly worked.
