Nii Ashie-Moore, the Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has rejected allegations linked to US$800,000 involving a Singaporean businessman, insisting that he did not receive the money as claimed.
The controversy involves businessman Toh You Kang, who has accused Ashie-Moore of obtaining money under the representation that he could help secure contracts with the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) for the supply of electric cables.
Ashie-Moore has consistently denied receiving the US$800,000. Through his lawyer, Gideon Tettey Tetteh, he has also rejected allegations of fraud and extortion, with his legal team instead accusing the businessman of defrauding him and his associates.
The dispute has resurfaced amid fresh reports concerning a separate allegation involving the businessman’s personal belongings.
According to reports published on October 23, 2026, the Office of the Attorney-General has recommended that Ashie-Moore be charged with stealing over claims that he removed the businessman’s luggage and other personal effects from Fiesta Residences while the businessman was in police custody.
The reported recommendation followed a review of an investigation docket containing witness statements, CCTV footage and a cybercrime analysis report. The advice reportedly cited Section 124 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29), and directed investigators to obtain a charge statement from Ashie-Moore for onward submission to the Attorney-General’s Office.
However, a recommendation to prosecute does not amount to a conviction, and the allegations must be determined through the appropriate legal process.
In a statement issued on October 23, Ashie-Moore disputed JoyNews’ report that the Attorney-General’s Department had recommended his prosecution. He described the publication as inaccurate and misleading, alleging that it was calculated to damage his reputation ahead of the NDC’s forthcoming internal elections.
He called on the media organisation to verify its claims, correct any inaccuracies and avoid using its platform to unfairly damage reputations.
The statement, as reported by MyJoyOnline, did not provide a detailed rebuttal of the specific evidence cited in the report.
The wider disagreement between Ashie-Moore and Toh You Kang has also featured in legal proceedings initiated by the businessman in 2025, in which he raised allegations concerning money paid for purported ECG contracts and alleged violations of his rights.
Ashie-Moore has denied receiving the disputed US$800,000. The competing claims remain contested, and neither the financial allegations nor the reported stealing allegation should be treated as proof of guilt.
