ONGWEDIVA- President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah is set to officially open the 2026 Olufuko Annual Cultural Festival today, at the Olufuko Centre in Outapi, with the event bringing together traditional leaders, government officials and cultural performers.
The President is expected to deliver the keynote address and officially open the festival at 12h15, following remarks by Omusati Regional Governor, Immanuel Shikongo.
The official programme indicates that the festivities will begin at 07h00 when the gates open to exhibitors, followed by the opening of the festival to the public at 08h00.
Dignitaries will begin arriving from 09h00, with Outapi Mayor Victorina Neingo scheduled to arrive at 09h20. Chief of Ombalantu Traditional Authority, T. K. Oswin Shifiona Mukulu, and other traditional authority leaders are expected to arrive shortly afterwards.
Governor Shikongo is scheduled to arrive at 09h30, while President Nandi-Ndaitwah is expected at 09h45, followed by a traditional authorities’ procession.
The programme will include the national and African Union anthems before the opening prayer by Dr Tshapaka Tsha Kapolo at 10h05.
Cultural performances will form a major part of the opening ceremony, with the Plateau State Cultural Troupe from Nigeria scheduled to perform at several intervals during the programme.
At 10h40, Chief Mukulu will deliver a statement on behalf of other traditional authorities, followed by remarks on behalf of the Sam Nujoma Foundation by its chairperson, Nahas Angula.
The programme will also feature a goodwill message from Plateau State Executive Governor, Barrister Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang of Nigeria.
Governor Shikongo will then introduce the keynote address before President Nandi-Ndaitwah delivers her address and officially opens the festival.
Following the opening ceremony, Chairperson of the Omusati Regional Council, Daniel lilende, will deliver a vote of thanks at 12h45.
The President will thereafter tour the Olufuko Traditional Homestead, meet traditional leaders and visit exhibition tents before departing for a luncheon at 13h45.
The 2026 festival is being held under the theme, “Culture: Our Heritage, Our Pride.”
