Brazil and OCP Nutricrops sign agreement targeting 3.8 million tons of fertilizer

Brazil’s Agriculture and Livestock Ministry and Morocco’s OCP Nutricrops have signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at securing 3.8 million metric tons of fertilizer for the Brazilian market over 2026 and 2027.

Brazilian Agriculture Minister André de Paula and OCP Nutricrops Chief Executive Faris Derrij signed the agreement during a Brazilian government delegation’s visit to OCP’s Jorf Lasfar industrial complex.

The memorandum covers fertilizer supplies alongside research, agricultural technology, training and soil health. Triple superphosphate, known as TSP, will form a central part of the supply program, supplemented by fertilizer solutions tailored to particular soils and crops.

The 3.8 million tons represent the volume targeted over the two-year period. No financial value, pricing terms or detailed delivery schedule were disclosed.

Supply security and tailored fertilizers

The agreement places continuity of supply at the center of cooperation, alongside efforts to adapt plant nutrition products to Brazilian farming conditions.

It comes as the partners seek more resilient fertilizer supply chains amid international disruptions. They identified tensions affecting the Strait of Hormuz as a reason to diversify supply sources and strengthen logistics.

The memorandum sets out five areas of cooperation: reliable fertilizer supplies; the development of TSP-based customized products; plant nutrition and soil health; innovation and sustainable agriculture; and research, training and technical exchanges.

Work on plant nutrition will take account of differences in Brazilian soils, crops and production systems. The partners also intend to explore digital tools, improve the efficiency of farming practices and develop agricultural methods with lower carbon emissions.

Scientific and technical exchanges will support knowledge transfer and training, while the broader cooperation framework is intended to identify additional opportunities linked to Brazil’s agricultural needs.

Building on OCP’s Brazilian operations

OCP established its Brazilian subsidiary in 2010, giving the Moroccan group more than 15 years of local operations.

That presence provides a base for cooperation with farmers, agricultural businesses and researchers, as well as work on products adapted to local growing conditions.

The new memorandum brings the planned fertilizer supply program and those technical activities under a shared framework covering both access to nutrients and their use in Brazilian agriculture.
