Atlas Lions head to South Africa for second AFCON 2027 qualifier

The Atlas Lions travelled to South Africa on Saturday, less than 24 hours after opening their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign with a 2-0 victory over Gabon in Rabat.

The Atlas Lions left from Rabat-Salé airport on Saturday morning ahead of their second Group A qualifier against Lesotho in Bloemfontein, according to Moroccan sports media.

Morocco beat Gabon 2-0 at Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium on Friday, with Noussair Mazraoui opening the scoring in the 36th minute before Soufiane Rahimi added a second late in the match.

Mohamed Ouahbi’s side will face Lesotho on **Tuesday, September 29 at 1 p.m. GMT** at Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein, the Royal Moroccan Football Federation confirmed.

Lesotho are playing the fixture in South Africa because their home venues do not meet the required standards for the qualifiers.

Ouahbi said after the Gabon win that Morocco still needed to improve aspects of their performance and manage changes in match rhythm better, while describing the opening result as positive.

Morocco and Niger both began Group A with victories, with Niger beating Lesotho 2-1 in their opening match.
