Torrevieja’s 2027 Budget Tops €200m for First Time, with €47m for Investment
AI summary
Torrevieja’s proposed 2027 municipal budget has passed the €200 million mark for the first time, with more than €47 million earmarked for investment and increased funding for several public services.
The draft budget totals €200.2 million, up 6.64% on 2026. Mayor Eduardo Dolón and Finance Councillor Domingo Paredes said it would continue major projects while increasing resources for policing, waste collection, street cleaning, parks and gardens, social services, education, sport and employment. The proposal must still go through the council’s approval process.
The budget allocates €47.03 million to capital investment. Among the largest planned allocations for 2027 are €9.33 million for the Sea and Salt Museum and its surroundings; €6.79 million for a new Alzheimer’s day centre; €5.69 million for the Los Locos beach promenade; and €3.98 million for the refurbishment of La Plasa market. A further €3.82 million is earmarked for areas around the port. These are annual budget allocations for projects at different stages, rather than their total costs.
The council says police staffing costs will rise by almost €2.14 million, taking the allocation to €11.47 million. Spending on waste collection will increase by 13.94% to €8.76 million, while street cleaning will receive €15.48 million and parks and gardens €8.16 million.
Funding for primary social assistance staff will rise by 19.42% to €3.98 million. The proposal also includes €2 million for projects chosen through participatory budgeting, continues a rent-support scheme for young residents and provides for investment in schools, including a proposed plan to create shaded areas in school playgrounds.
The council’s investment schedule includes €18.63 million in expected proceeds from municipal property sales, €26.11 million in loans and €2.82 million in grants. Paredes stressed that these are budgeted financing estimates; the inclusion of an asset sale or loan does not mean it has already taken place.
The draft maintains current property tax rates. Personnel spending is budgeted at €51.96 million, while day-to-day goods and services account for €87.62 million.
